Wiregrass, GSW answering the need for long-term care management

Within the next 11 years all baby boomers will be older than 65 causing them to outnumber children for the first time in U.S. history according to the U.S. Census.gov.  With this increasing number of senior adults the need for more workers in the long-term care field is growing.  In fact, according to the U.S. Department of Labor the demand for Medical and Health Services Managers will increase in the next 10 years by 18 percent, which is much faster than average.  This includes healthcare facilities, including hospitals, and nursing homes.

To help fill this growing job demand, Wiregrass Georgia Technical College has signed an articulation agreement with Georgia Southwestern State University (GSW).  The agreement will allow graduates from Wiregrass who complete a two-year degree in nursing or health services to transfer credits to GSW to complete the Long-Term Care Management Degree program.  This program will be offered online through GSW allowing students the freedom to continue working, caring for family, and completing a degree without travel to the campus.

Dr. Leisa Easom, RN Associate Dean for Health Services at GSW shared, “This exciting new partnership between Georgia Southwestern State University and Wiregrass Georgia Technical College provides a new career journey in Long–Term Care Management for the Wiregrass graduates that addresses today’s healthcare workforce crisis.”

Wiregrass President Dr. Tina K. Anderson shared, “Georgia Southwestern is a wonderful university, and we are happy to work with them in providing this career path for our students.  This will open new career opportunities for both Wiregrass’ current and former students.”

Wiregrass will be accepting new students for Spring Semester during the college’s Free Application Week, November 4-8.  Those who apply in person will have their application fee waived.  Spring Semester classes start January 8, 2020.  To learn more about this articulation agreement and the programs Wiregrass offers, visit wiregrass.edu.
