In the Douglas city election Tuesday night, incumbents won the day while the tax allocation district (TAD) referendum passed by an overwhelming majority.

Douglas mayor Tony Paulk faced opposition from two challengers, Kevin Carver and Terrance Coley. Paulk won easily, 1,432 votes to Carver’s 443 and Coley’s 383. Candidates in three city wards — Wards 1, 2, and 3 — had opposition as well. In Ward 1, Ed Taylor defeated James Perry 244-79. The Ward 2 race saw Kentaiwon Durham square off with Mickeayla Clark-Brockington and Rodney Johnson. Durham brought in 242 votes while Clark-Brockington received 121 votes to Johnson’s 28. In Ward 3, the closest election of the night, Olivia Coley-Pearson defeated write-in Carla Grady 231-205.

The Douglas redevelopment referendum, known to most as the TAD vote, passed 1,889 to 334. In Nicholls, the package sales on Sunday referendum passed 45-11.

Broxton also had a city council election. The top four vote recipients will sit on the council. Those were J. Littleton (137), C. Wilkerson (133), R. Christian (128), and the only incumbent, Bill Whiddon (118). D. Bradshaw received 90 votes while N. Jordan tallied 74. Ronnie Graham also ran as a write-in and received 51 votes. Dawn Lott Tuten ran unopposed in the Broxton mayor’s election.
