Seventy-five percent of DPA participants win awards

Coffee County was well represented at the Cloverleaf District Project Achievement contest on November 9 in Lyons. Students from seven of the twelve schools in Coffee County had either 4th, 5th, or 6th graders compete in the contest. One fourth grader, 41 fifth graders and 27 sixth graders competed this year.

Coffee County 4-H was presented a first place county program award at the contest for the most participants and third place award for highest percentage of winners with 75 percent placing 1st, 2nd or 3rd.
The 4-H staff would like to thank these students for all their hard work. We would also like to thank the teen and volunteer leaders for their assistance with project preparation as well as at the contest. Your assistance was greatly appreciated.
Pet Therapy Visitation
We want to thank our 4-H members who participated in the Pet Therapy visitation on Tuesday, November 12. Participants included: Eastside: Chloe Ferris; Indian Creek: Izzy Texada; Junior Club: Glenn O’Steen; Senior Club: Adrianna Rivero, Alexandra Rivero, Daniel Silva, and Kimberly Wright; Pre-club Members: Alyia Hall and Jessa Hall; Adults: Glenda Ferris, Alyse Hall, Jason O’Steen, Kathy Rivero, Daniel Texada, and Patti Wright.
The next visitation will be on Monday, December 16. Please enroll in the Pet Therapy Club today if you are interested in participating in these visitation days.
4-H Adopt-A-Highway
The next workday for the 4-H Adopt-A-Highway program will be from 4 to 5 PM on Thursday, November 21. All 4-H members are encouraged to take part in helping keep Coffee County clean by picking up litter on our roadways. Parents can drop you off at the Coffee County Extension (4-H) office at 4 PM and pick you up around 5 PM. Please dress appropriately for the weather as we do not want anyone to get sick from being outside in the weather.
Thanksgiving Schedule
Please take note that the UGA Extension office in Coffee County will be closed for the Thanksgiving holiday on Wednesday, November 27, through Friday, November 29. We will reopen with normal business hours of 8 AM to 12 PM, and 1 PM to 5 PM, Monday through Friday, on Monday, December 2. With the UGA labs closing during the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays, make sure to check with our office before bringing in samples such as water, soil, or tissue.
Fall Forum
The Georgia 4-H Board of Directors are planning a fun-filled weekend for Fall Forum, “#trending with Georgia 4-H”. The weekend (December 14-15) includes a mix of workshops and educational sessions along with opportunities for community service and exhibits. Registration for Fall Forum is open to any current 9th-12th grade 4-H members in the 2019-2020 school term. This event provides many opportunities for project work, competition, networking, and training for youth and adults.
The registration fee of $95 is due by Tuesday, November 26. The registration fee covers Saturday lunch, dinner, and lodging, as well as Sunday breakfast. Pizzas can be ordered Saturday morning or at lunch and are $12 each.
There will be a Fall Forum 4K race on Sunday morning. There is usually an additional registration fee for the race around $12-$15 which includes a Clover Glove race t-shirt. 4-H members can apply to lead a community service project at Fall Forum. The application information is available from the 4-H office. This online application deadline is 5 PM on Wednesday, November 20. Students may also apply to enter an exhibit in the Exhibit Fair. This would be a great way to add to your DPA portfolio’s “Helping and Sharing” section. Online applications for the exhibit fair are due by 5 PM on Wednesday, December 4. You are also asked to contribute canned foods to the “4-H Cans Hunger” service project. Be sure to turn in your canned foods to the 4-H office before December 1.
