Ms. Frances Pheil Roberts Sanders, age 76 of Douglas, passed away late Thursday afternoon at Vista Park Health and Rehabilitation following an extended illness. Ms. Sanders was born January 18, 1943 to the late James Pheil and the Lonie Lucille O’Steen Pheil. Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, B.H. Pheil, and a nephew, Bryant Pheil, Jr.

Ms. Pheil, a native of Coffee County, was a graduate of South Georgia State College with her degree in nursing. She worked as an RN with Archbold Memorial Hospital in Thomasville for over 25 years. She was also a hospice nurse with Archbold Memorial Hospital for approximately 17 years where she was able to comfort many families in their time of grief. She loved the nursing profession and served in it for 42 years. She loved her patients and cared for them as if they were her own family.

Survivors include: Children Wendy Gail Roberts of Albany, Bonnie Jean Roberts Travis of Nicholls, and Melinda Jan Roberts of Panama City, Fla.; half brother James Pheil of Waycross; half sister: Rose Pheil of Waycross; grandchildren Megan Duke of Leesburg, Boni Lou Roberts of Albany, Mindy Roberts and Cody Roberts, both of Thomasville; great-grandchildren Maddux Lewis and Sophie Lewis, both of Leesburg; a beloved first cousin that was more like a sister, Jean Carol Davis of Douglas; special nephews Tony Dykes of Douglas and Austin Herrington of Douglas; special friends that she loved as if they were her own children, Leisa Jones, Toni May and Kym Hiers-Brinson; and several other nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends.

The funeral service was Sunday morning, December 1, 2019, at 11:00 AM at Chapel of Ricketson Funeral Home with Rev. Clyde Dykes officiating. The interment followed in Douglas City Cemetery.

Ricketson Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
