Former Clerk of Court Willifred Thompson, 88, has passed

Former Clerk of Court Willifred M. Thompson, who served the citizens of Coffee County for 53 years as an employee of the Clerk of Court’s office (33 years) and as Clerk of Court (20 years), has passed away. She was 88 years old.

Mrs. Thompson passed on Tuesday, Dec. 24, 2019 at her residence in Broxton. She was born on June 15, 1931 in Broxton, the daughter of the late Ward L. Moseley and the late Eddie Lou Brundage Moseley.

Mrs. Thompson worked for the Clerk of Court Hubert Mote for thirty-three years then served as the Clerk of Court for another 22 years. She also was a member of Broxton Baptist Church.

Survivors include her five caretakers, Mable Manley of Broxton, Teresa Gordon of Douglas, Diane Gross of Douglas, Glenda Hodges of Douglas, and Mary Butler of Douglas; and a special friend, Angela Spell Hutto.

The family will receive friends Friday evening December 27, 2019 from 6pm until 9pm at Sims Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be held at 11 am Saturday, December 28, 2019 at Broxton Baptist Church with Rev. Den Weniger and Rev. George Carroll Paulk officiating. Interment will follow at Pridgen Church Cemetery. She will lay-in-state at the church Saturday morning from 10 am until time of service at 11 am. Pallbearers will be deputies of the Coffee County Sheriff’s Office.

Musical selections will be “One Day at a Time” and “What a Mighty God We Serve” both by CD. Rev. Den Weniger will provide prelude and postlude music.

Sims Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
