Peggy Dukes Guthrie, age 89, of Douglas, GA, passed away on April 5, 2020 at The Landings of Douglas following an extended illness.  Mrs. Guthrie was born September 8, 1930 in Waycross, GA, the daughter of the late David Clinton Dukes and Lovie Ernestine Harris Dukes Baker.

Mrs. Guthrie was a member of the Douglas First United Methodist Church and the Shell Vickers Sunday School class.  She retired from South Georgia College and had also worked a number of years at Coffee County Board of Education, Hutchinson’s Paint Store and Sears Roebuck.  She enjoyed the relationships she formed during her years as a Weight Watchers advisor, Avon sales representative and Red Cross volunteer.  Her interests included Douglas First United Methodist Church, their Keenagers group, cooking and reading.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, John R Guthrie.  Survivors include three sons, John R (Linda) Guthrie, Jr. of Prosper, TX, Clint (Cathy) Guthrie of Westfield, IN, and H. Duke Guthrie of Valdosta, GA; three grandchildren, Tara (Matt) Orelup of Whitestown, IN, Nichole (Eric) Daluga-Guenther of St. Louis, MO, and Brooks (Jenn) Guthrie, of Leander, TX; three great grandchildren, Zooey Guenther, Taylor Guthrie, Luke Guthrie Orelup; brother, David (Jeanette) Dukes of Douglas, GA, and several nieces.

The family wishes to express their appreciation to the staff at The Landings of Douglas, Bethany Hospice, Douglas Home Care and Coastal Home Care for their kindness and caregiving.

Private graveside services were held on April 8, 2020 at Douglas City Cemetery.  A Celebration of Life service will be held at a future date.
