Victor Michael Vickers, aged 59, of Douglas, Georgia, passed away on Tuesday, April 7, 2020, at his residence following an extended illness. Mr. Vickers was born July 21, 1960, the son of Micajah J. (“Amos”) and Sharon Parker Vickers.

Mr. Vickers was of the Baptist faith. He was a broadcast engineer by profession and had a remarkable gift for all things related to electronics and mechanics. He was a lifelong HAM radio operator, having built his first radio tower in his parents’ yard while he was still in high school. He taught and encouraged many others in the hobby and leaves behind a great legacy of joy and friendship in that community. He was blessed with many friends, all of whom knew him as someone who was always willing to help them in any way he could. Throughout his life he had been many things, from a pilot and race car driver, to an engineer and entrepreneur. By far his proudest roles, however, were those of husband and father, and he was tirelessly devoted to his family.

He is survived by his wife, Becky Vickers, and three sons, William Vickers, Jon Vickers, and Jack Vickers, all of Douglas, GA; parents, Amos and Sharon Vickers of Douglas, GA; sister Amy Larkey (Josh) of Douglas, GA; two brothers, David Vickers (Jenny) of Douglas, GA, and Jon Vickers (Lindsay) of Atlanta, GA; and several nieces and nephews.

Due to the current coronavirus outbreak a family graveside service is planned for 11:00 a.m., Saturday, April 11, 2020, at the Douglas City Cemetery, with Chuck Sims officiating. Others who wish to attend the service may do so from a distance. Attendees are asked to comply with the current guidelines and restrictions concerning containment of the coronavirus, including social distancing.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to: Team Gleason ALS Foundation, P.O. Box 24493, New Orleans, LA, 70184.

Sims Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
