University of Georgia Extension Service

For some great ideas in the kitchen, visit the UGA Extension’s “FoodTalk” website at https://foodtalk.org. It has great ideas on how to keep your family healthy by making nutritious food choices on a budget.

This week’s easy recipe comes from the UGA SNAP-ED’s COOKING THROUGH THE SEASONS recipe book, strawberry frozen yogurt. The list of ingredients includes two cups frozen strawberries, ½ cup plain Greek non-fat yogurt, and 1 /2 tablespoon honey. Add all ingredients to a small blender or food processor. Blend for 1-2 minutes. Your ingredients may get pushed to the side as you’re blending. Just pause blending and scrape the sides with a rubber spatula before continuing. Scoop your frozen yogurt out and enjoy immediately! (Serves 3) This is an easy recipe to personalize. Use your favorite fruits instead of or along with the strawberries. Blueberries or bananas make great additions.

Updated Dairy Poster Contest

The theme for the 2020 June Dairy Month 4-H Poster Contest is “The Art of Dairy.” Posters must be 14″ x 22″ and copyrighted characters MAY NOT be used. Posters should contain only original hand-drawn artwork which is done by the 4-H member submitting the entry. No computer generated text or artwork may be used. Keep it simple and to the point. Complete a contest entry form (available on the http://coffee4h.org web site) and tape/paste it on the back of your poster in the upper right corner. We will complete the boxed portion on this form. Next, take a picture of your poster and entry form using a cell phone or digital camera and send it electronically through email to the county 4-H office by Friday, April 24, at cwoods@uga.edu. Please make sure that the pictures show your poster and entry form clearly and with adequate light. We will then submit your photos to the state 4-H office for judging.

Posters will be scored on: originality (40%), follows theme (20%), conveys message (15%), general appearance (15%), and accurate information (10%). Prizes of gift cards are given for each 4-H age division (Cloverleaf, Junior, & Senior). Gift cards are $100 for 1st, $75 for 2nd, and $50 for 3rd.

Can Tabs

Everyone is encouraged to collect can tabs off aluminum cans to support the Ronald McDonald House Charities project. These can tabs help provide money to the Ronald McDonald House for their operating fees.

The Ronald McDonald House Charities offer free or low-cost housing and meals to families of children receiving medical attention at larger hospitals in Atlanta, Augusta, Columbus, Macon and Savannah. By donating can tabs, you are helping to provide housing and meals for families who are burdened by hospital bills and do not need the extra burden of housing and meals for the family staying at the hospital. Hopefully you will never have to use the Ronald McDonald House, but it is great that it is there in case you should ever need it.

Please continue collecting can tabs through the current COVID-19 crisis and bring them to the Extension (4-H) office after social distancing restrictions have been lifted.

If you would like to learn how you can become more involved with the Coffee County 4-H program, please contact the Coffee County Extension office at (912) 384-1402 or visit our website at http://coffee4h.org.
