Mr. W. P. Chaney, age 92 of Douglas, passed away Tuesday morning, May 5, 2020, at his residence following a short illness. Mr. Chaney was born November 9, 1927 to the late George Patrick Chaney and the late Hulda Louisa Minix Chaney. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Jeanette Taylor Chaney and several siblings, including James, Bertha, Lucy, Agnes, Albert, Della, Joe, Lester, Mae Bell, Ella Mae, Sampie Lee and Henry Jackson.

 

Mr. Chaney, a native of Coffee County, had worked for 35 years in sales, service and repairs at our local Western Auto Store. After his retirement from Western Auto he had worked as a court bailiff. Mr. Chaney was a founding member of First Freewill Baptist Church of Douglas and he also attended First Congregational Christian Church. He was also a veteran of the United States Army having served during World War II.

 

Survivors include: Daughter Beverly Pharr and husband Kenneth of Douglas, GA; grandson Benjamin Taylor Pharr of Marietta, GA; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.

 

The graveside service and interment will be Thursday, May 7, 2020 at 4:00 P.M. at Lone Hill Cemetery with Rev. Matt Rutland officiating.

 

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made in his memory to First Congregational Christian Church 1308 North Madison Avenue Douglas, GA 31533.

 

Pallbearers for the service will be: Buster Taylor, Lee Taylor, Russell Durden, Randall Parker, Paul Scheeser and J. R. Railey.

 

Musical selections will be furnished by the soloist, Courtney Taylor.

 

Please note that due to restrictions of attendance and social distancing being place on funeral homes by the CDC concerning the containment of COVID-19, please observe their guidelines.

 

Ricketson Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
