This week’s recipe is great this time of year with fresh strawberries. It’s Strawberry Lime Smoothies. The ingredients needed include: 1 cup strawberry yogurt, ½ cup 2% milk, 2 to 4 tablespoons lime juice, 2 tablespoons honey, ¼ teaspoon ground cinnamon, and 2 cups fresh strawberries, hulled. Add all ingredients in a blender, cover, and blend until smooth. This recipe should make 3 servings and only takes about five minutes to make.

Summer Activities

Our staff is evaluating and discussing how we can still hold our summer activities within the guidelines established for social distancing. We know that the events will have to be moved to the week of July 13 instead of holding them in June when they were originally planned. We will evaluate each activity to determine if we are going to be able to proceed. The original dates for our activities scheduled were: trip to Summer Waves Water Park (June 9), trip to the Macon Bacon baseball game (June 11), trip to the Ronald McDonald House in Savannah along with a dolphin cruise and a stop at River Street Sweets (June 16), and trip to the President Jimmy Carter Historical Site in Plains and to the Providence Canyon State Park in Lumpkin (June 18).

At this time, we are still expecting to do these activities and asking 4-H members interested in participating in them to sign up. The registration form on the 4-H website at http://coffee4h.org ; 4‑H Forms and Web Links menu, can still be used even though the dates will change. The total cost for all four day-long activities is only $90. If you have a 4-H member interested in registering, please complete a form and mail your form and registration fee to the Coffee County Extension Office at 709 E. Ward Street, Douglas, GA 31533. If your child is not able to attend on the new date, we will issue refunds for those particular events. If you have any questions, please email them to me at ktatum@uga.edu since our office is still closed due to social distancing.

Camp Update

The state 4-H office has informed the county offices that we will have a decision about 4-H summer camp no later than Friday, May 29. So we should know by the end of this week if we will be attending camp or not this summer. We do know that we will not be attending camp in June. If we are approved to have overnight camps, Cloverleaf Camp for 4th – 6th graders will be July 6-10 at the Rock Eagle 4-H Center. Both the Junior Camp for 7th & 8th graders will be at the Fortson 4-H Center and Senior 4-H Camp for 9th-12th graders will be at the Rock Eagle 4-H Center the week of July 27-31.

We are planning to hold our Cloverleaf Camp Orientation Meeting on June 15. If we are unable to meet in person, this meeting will be held through an online service. Each camp participant and a parent are asked to be at this meeting. Forms will be mailed out prior to the orientation meeting and will be discussed during the meeting.

If you would like to learn how you can become more involved with the Coffee County 4-H program, please contact the Coffee County Extension office at (912) 384-1402 or visit our website at http://coffee4h.org.
