Jose Ramon Ormsby Ortiz, age 88, of Douglas, Georgia, passed away on Saturday, May 23, 2020 at Vista Park. Mr. Ortiz was born on February 6, 1932 in Tucson, Arizona, the son of the late Ramon Garcia Ortiz and Refugia Ormsby Ortiz.

Mr. Ortiz was a retired medic with the United States Air Force after twenty-seven years serving during the Cuban Missile Crisis, Vietnam and Korean Wars. During his service Mr. Ortiz was a member of the Air Force boxing team. Mr. Ortiz was coach and director of the Douglas Boxing Team for twenty-five years and was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Ladder-day Saints.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Juanell Jewell Ortiz; son, Emilio Ortiz; and a brother, Larry Chaboya.

Survivors include two daughters, Joy O. Smith (Ricky) of Ambrose, GA and Camellia O. Spivey (Stanley) of Douglas, GA; son, Reinaldo Ortiz (Louise) of Douglas, GA; brother, Gilbert Ortiz of Anaheim, CA; sister, Norma Ortiz Berrellez of Riverside, CA; eleven grandchildren, nineteen great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be held on Sunday, May 24, 2020 at 4:00pm at Douglas City Cemetery with Opening Prayer by: Joy Ortiz Smith, Eulogy by: Spivey Gray, Military: Presentation of the Flag by the United States Air Force Honor Guard and Dedication/Closing Prayer by: Stanley Spivey. The family will receive friends at the graveside. Pallbearers will be Dorsey Smith, Adam Smith, Ben Smith, Daniel Spivey, Nathan Spivey, Jose Ortiz, Zachary Ortiz and Jonathan Ortiz.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to charity of your choice.

Sims Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
