South Georgia State College President Dr. Ingrid Thompson-Sellers is pleased to announce the receipt of a $25,000 gift from the family of the late Dr. Barbara P. Losty to establish the Dr. Barbara P. Losty Faculty Scholar-In-Residence Program.
“SGSC is very grateful to be the recipient of such a tremendous gift,” said Dr. Sellers. “Faculty support was one of Dr. Losty’s top priorities, and it is exciting to know that her dedication to this effort will remain a fixture on campus.”
Named for the former President Emeritus of Waycross College, the Scholar-In-Residence Program strengthens SGSC’s Momentum Year efforts. Momentum Year is a suite of strategies designed to help University System of Georgia students in their first crucial year of college. SGSC works with its students through the Momentum Year initiative to guide them on a path to achieve their educational goals, including successful degree completion and on-time graduation.
The Scholar-In-Residence Program provides support to a SGSC faculty member who will develop a plan over the course of one year that actively promotes and is engaged in implementing Momentum Year principles and practices. Mrs. Elisa Johnson, lecturer of English, was selected through a nomination process as the program’s first participant.
“I wish to congratulate Mrs. Johnson for being nominated by her faculty peers to receive this notable award,” said Dr. Sellers. “Mrs. Johnson will be engaged in work outside of her regular duties and responsibilities to further the mission of the institution. I look forward to seeing the results of her year-long work on the Momentum Year initiative.”
