Mr. Larry Eugene Highsmith, age 78, of Pearson, passed away Thursday, July 9, 2020 at Coffee Regional Medical Center in Douglas following a brief illness.

 

A lifelong resident of Atkinson County, Mr. Highsmith was born in Brunswick on June 15, 1942, son of Murray Highsmith and Adeline McGovern. He was a US Army veteran of the Vietnam War. After retiring from farming, Mr. Highsmith enjoyed socializing, going to the mountains, fishing, and watching old Western movies. He attended Sunnyside Baptist Church and was preceded in death by his parents.

 

Survivors include his wife, Martha Mobley Highsmith of Pearson; step-sons Jerome and Kyle Mobley; and several cousins and other relatives also survive.

 

Graveside funeral services for Mr. Highsmith were held Sunday, July 12, 2020 at 2:00 P.M. at Satilla Memorial Gardens in Douglas with Rev. Larry Johnson officiating. Special musical selections included, “Go Rest High on that Mountain” and “Spirit in the Sky” were rendered by CD. The interment followed in Satilla Memorial Gardens Cemetery.

 

Serving as active pallbearers were: Charlton Gillis, Hampton Giddens, Phil Murray, Phil Liles, Lee Steverson, and Robbie Dale Bazemore.

 

Relihan Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
