Kevin Tatum, County Extension Coordinator

For this week’s recipe, I found a recipe for “Curly Noodle Supreme.” You will need the following ingredients: ½ pound ground turkey, 14 ounce can of diced tomatoes, 15 ounce can of whole kernel corn, ¼ teaspoon of Italian seasoning, ¼ teaspoon of black pepper, and 1 package of ramen noodles (discard seasoning packet).

Begin by browning the ground turkey in a large skillet and drain off grease into empty container. Clean lids of cans of diced tomatoes and corn, then open them. Add tomatoes with the juice to the skillet. Pour away liquid from the canned corn, then add to skillet. Add the Italian seasoning and pepper. Crumble the package of ramen noodles and add to the skillet (remember to throw away the seasoning packet). Cover and simmer about 10 minutes or until noodles are tender and the liquid is absorbed. You can find a microwave friendly version of this recipe at www.foodtalk.org.

For some great ideas in the kitchen, visit the UGA Extension’s “FoodTalk” website at https://foodtalk.org. It has great ideas on how to keep your family healthy by making nutritious food choices on a budget.

Update

The Extension office is open to the public with limitations on the number of people in the office at one time. However, we are still not able to hold meetings at this time. We are still holding virtual meetings with our older 4-H members on a bi-weekly basis. We were in hopes of being able to have a face-to-face awards program in late July or early August, but with the rise in COVID-19 numbers, we have decided on holding a virtual awards program. We will announce our award winners on the virtual awards program and the students may pick up their awards at the 4-H office when it is safe to do so. We were also hoping to be able to get our 4-H Reward Trip in this summer before school resumes in August. It looks like this is going to be an impossibility and we will have to do something at a later date.

Please remember to continue safe practices of social distancing until it is safe to resume a normal lifestyle and the threat of COVID-19  has passed.

If you would like to learn how you can become more involved with the Coffee County 4-H program, please contact the Coffee County Extension office at (912) 384-1402 or visit our website at http://coffee4h.org.

Seeking Americorps Member

Coffee County Extension is accepting applications for a full-time AmeriCorps State member. AmeriCorps is a federally funded national service program modeled after the Peace Corps.  For more information: www.nationalservice.gov. This is a temporary, national service position, not a traditional employment position. A one-year commitment is required.

AmeriCorps State members provide 4-H positive youth development programming under the direction of the County Extension Agent. This is a direct service position that requires transport of youth and some night and weekend hours. Members also assist with program planning, development, and volunteer management. Other activities include required trainings, monthly reports, administration of surveys, and data entry.

This position is available September 1, 2020 – August 31, 2021. This is a full-time AmeriCorps member position. The member is required to log 1,700 hours of service (35-40 hours/week) by August 31, 2021 to successfully complete the term of service.

AmeriCorps members receive a variety of benefits: monthly living allowance ($1,250), free health insurance, education award ($6,195). To qualify for the education award, the member must complete the hour requirement. Other benefits are available based on eligibility (childcare assistance, loan forbearance).

A high school diploma or equivalent and valid driver’s license are required. Experience providing youth development programming and a general knowledge of 4-H is preferred.

To apply: http://ugajobsearch.com. Use Keyword AmeriCorps to find open positions.
