Harry Edward Cohen Jr., age 92, of Douglas, Georgia, passed away on Tuesday, July 28, 2020 at Coffee Regional Medical Center. Mr. Cohen was born on July 26, 1928 in Douglas, Georgia, the son of the late Harry Edward Cohen Sr and Lois Warnock Cohen.

 

Mr. Cohen worked for the State of Georgia Drug & Alcohol Division as a counselor, a member of AA and a member of First United Methodist Church.

 

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mattie Crews Cohen; son, Bill Cohen; granddaughter, Kimberly Noel Cohen; and a sister, Mary Dean Cohen Chastain.

 

Survivors include his son, John Ira Cohen (Gayle) of Ocilla, GA; three grandchildren, Kristy Michelle Bagley (Mark) of Douglas, GA, Brittni Hutchinson (Dustin) of Broxton, GA and Jessica Cohen of Marietta, GA; seven great grandchildren.

 

Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 31, 2020 at 11 am at First United Methodist Church with Rev. Doug Walker, John Higgs and Chuck Sims officiating. Interment will follow at Douglas City Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 6 pm until 9 pm at Sims Funeral Home. Pallbearers will be members of New Hope Recovery Center. Honorary pallbearers will be the Whitfield Sunday School Class and members of New Hope Recovery Center.

 

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to, New Hope Recovery Center 24 Plum Drive, Douglas, GA 31533.

 

Sims Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

 

Those attending are asked to maintain the recommended safe social distancing of six feet and wear protective masks in accordance with the guidelines for the coronavirus.
