As schools throughout the state have been faced with the impossible decision of when to resume face-to-face instruction, First Academy, a ministry of First Baptist in Douglas, has announced that its reopening date will be Wednesday, August 12.
Because of its size, First Academy is unique in its ability to pivot quickly to an ever-evolving pandemic situation. The administration credits the support of the parents and the resiliency of their students to allowing them the margin to make difficult decisions as well as create effective plans that will bring students back to the classroom.
To ensure student safety, the school will be following increased sanitization protocols and encouraging students to consider wearing masks upon their return. Additionally, Open House will take place over two days (August 10th and 11th), which will allow parents to meet one-on-one with teachers during scheduled appointments. First Academy also plans to provide school supplies to every student to prevent unnecessary public exposure, as well as aid in school supply shortages that rural communities are facing.
As the FA leadership eagerly awaits the start of the new school year, they are choosing to fix their eyes on Christ and prayerfully seek the wisdom of God in reopening. In a time of great division, their prayer is that their school would reflect Psalm 133:1- “How good and pleasant it is when God’s people live together in unity!”
