South Georgia State College not only offers 23 academic pathways at the associate degree level and seven bachelor degrees on the Douglas and Waycross campuses, but SGSC also provides another option for students who are beginning their college academic journeys.

South Georgia State College’s Entry Program is designed for a student to complete 30 credit hours in the University System of Georgia core curriculum at SGSC while preparing them for sophomore-level courses at Valdosta State University. Now, SGSC Entry Program students can earn a certificate of completion to add to their higher education credentials. The core curriculum courses are planned to fit most programs of study, and the core curriculum credits transfer to any institution in the University System of Georgia, including VSU. Entry program students benefit from small class numbers that afford one-on-one attention from faculty and staff. The entrance requirements are the same as other SGSC locations and affordable at only $95 per credit hour for in-state tuition.

In addition, SGSC and VSU wants students to feel at home on the VSU campus and enjoy the Blazer Life. Enrolled entry program students are invited to be a part of student organizations, attend football games and other athletic events and participate in student life and intramural sports. Housing on the VSU campus may be available in Langdale Hall. VSU meal plans are available to all students.

“SGSC will award a certificate of completion to students who successfully complete 30 hours of coursework with a GPA of 2.0 or higher. This is a way to recognize students’ efforts in successfully completing the program and to introduce students to the concept of stackable credentials,” explains Dr. Robert Page, SGSC vice president of academic and student affairs. “After completion, they can move on to a program at VSU, or use the credits to complete a degree at SGSC or elsewhere. The new certification will recognize the achievement of completion of core courses and help our students turn credentials into greater opportunities.”

The Entry Program office at VSU is located at Entrance #9 in the University Center. The address for the program is 1500 Patterson Street in Valdosta, Georgia. Interested students can find more information by visiting www.sgsc.edu or contacting the Entry Program at 912-260-4660 or by email at SGSCEP.VSU@sgsc.edu.
