Gregory Alan “Greg” Chancey, age 63, of Douglas, Georgia, passed away on Tuesday, August 18, 2020 at Coffee Regional Medical Center. Mr. Chancey was born on April 6, 1957 in Ware County, Georgia the son of the late Joseph Levi Chancey and Nadine Adams Chancey.
Greg worked in law enforcement for 37 years with Coffee County Sheriff’s Office, Douglas Police Department, Broxton Police Department and Irwin County Sheriff’s Office/ICDC. He was a graduate of Coffee County High School Class of 1976, a graduate of ABAC, Tifton, GA, a member of Fraternal Order of Police and Douglas Christian Fellowship Church of God.
Survivors include his wife, Jan Walker Chancey of Douglas, GA; son, Alan Chancey (Jody) of Douglas, GA; two daughters, April Merritt (Roy) of Douglas, GA and Aimee Robinson (Scott) of Broxton, GA; ten grandchildren, Cameron Nettles, Reagan Robinson, Carson Chancey, Ethan Nettles, Aiden Chancey, Kynnedy Robinson, Morgan Merritt, Hudson Chancey, Charleigh Robinson and Avery Robinson; two brothers, Joey Chancey (Sharon) of Douglas, GA and Jerry Chancey (Vicki) of Blackshear, GA; two sisters, Lisa Hodge (Jimmy) of Douglas, GA and Brenda Cody (Jerry) of Cumming, GA; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 22, 2020 at 11:00am at Broxton Church of God with Rev. Josh Bowles, Rev. Leroy Spivey, Rev. Joey Copeland and Rev. Jerry Chancey officiating. Interment will follow at Douglas City Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Marc Thomas, Timmy Miller, Terry Spivey, Roy Merritt, Cameron Nettles, Scott Robinson, Charles Cross, Ben Munford and Joey Chancey. Honorary pallbearers will be Irwin County Detention Center, Coffee County Sheriff’s Office, Douglas Police Department, Broxton Police Department, Class of 1976 and New Harmony Group.
