The Douglas Lions Club has been busy making preparations for their 21st annual Big Buck Contest.  The Big Buck Contest is the annual fundraiser that helps the Douglas Lions Club give back to OUR community and this year will see some changes due to COVID-19 guidelines.  The contest will be held LIVE, online, and winners will not need to be present for prizes.

“The Big Buck Contest has become a wonderful community project that brings together many people and businesses throughout Douglas,” says Douglas Lions Club President, JoLynn Grantham.  “In order for us to continue to help various non-profit organizations, we have to have support for our Big Buck Contest.  This year, more than ever, we are counting on the ticket sales from the Big Buck Contest to help us donate back to our community.”

Last year, money raised from the Big Buck Contest contributed to donations of over $30,000 to various charities such as the Childhood Cancer Group of Coffee County, A Night to Shine, the Hope Center, Beta Sigma Passionately Pink, Good Deeds Club, American Legion Post 515 Wreaths Across America, Coffee County 4-H, FFA & youth programs, and other non-profit organizations.  Most recently, the Douglas Lions Club conducted two food drives and gave away over 4,000 boxes of produce from USDA.  Each year, the local Lions Club helps to provide over 500 free eyesight screenings in the community.  Douglas Lions Club contributes to future leaders by awarding several scholarships to students totaling $3,000.  In addition to these local contributions, the Douglas Lions Club contributes regionally as well as internationally through five areas of service: eyesight conservation, diabetes awareness, hunger, childhood cancer awareness, and environment protection.

Tickets for the Big Buck Contest will go on sale soon.  When you purchase a ticket, you will help the Lions Club continue the tradition of serving others.  If you would like to make a donation, contact JoLynn Grantham via email jolynn@fletcheroil.com and a Lion will contact you.

“We Serve” is our motto and it is seen throughout every aspect of the Douglas Lions Club from flag display programs throughout the year to supporting vision projects and community organizations.  Founded in 1936, the Douglas Lions Club has worked tirelessly to support and fund sight conservation projects as well as Diabetes Awareness, Youth programs, Childhood Cancer Research and Awareness, Environment Care and Hunger Prevention as well as community events in an effort to service the entire community and beyond. If you are interested in becoming a part of this group, contact Membership Chair Cathy Williams, email: cast3@windstream.net.
