Mr. James Louis Matthews, age 79 of Broxton, GA, passed away Tuesday evening, September 22, 2020 at Satilla Hospice House in Waycross, following an extended illness. Mr. Matthews was born February 12, 1941 to the late Ross Matthews and the late Vertie Hutcheson Matthews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 4 Siblings: Shirley Williamson, Danny Matthews, Junior Matthews and Felix Matthews.

Mr. Matthews, a native of Winnsboro, South Carolina, was a self-employed carpenter. He was a member of Reedy Branch Baptist Church.

Survivors include:

His wife: Katherine Dianne Wooten Matthews of Broxton, GA

Children: Michelle Matthews of Belvedere, TN
Sean Matthews and wife Kim of Huntland, TN

Step-Children: Randy Snow of Broxton, GA
Andrea McKinnon and husband Travis of Mora, GA

 

Grandchildren: Chase Matthews of Lyons, GA
Marlee Matthews, Jonathan Harrell, Shaylan Matthews,
Emma Matthews, Bella Matthews and Sam Matthews all of TN

Great grandchildren: Callie Matthews and Little John Harrell both of
GA and Ryker Matthews of TN

Step-grandchildren: Tyler Snow and Fiancee Katelyn Carter of Broxton, GA
Jared McKinnon and Joshua McKinnon both of Mora, GA

Step-great-grandchild: Sawyer Snow of Broxton, GA

The funeral service will be Friday morning, September 25, 2020 at 11:00 AM at Chapel of Ricketson Funeral Home with Rev. Den Weniger and Dr. Shep Johnson officiating. The interment will follow at 3:00 PM at Hutcheson Cemetery in Soperton (Treutlen County).

Active pallbearers for the service will be: Larry Hinson, Phillip Jowers, Jerry Wooten, Loy Burkett, Archie Rish, Sr. and Peanut Davis.

Honorary pallbearers will be Mr. Matthews’ Sunday School class at Reedy Branch.

Please note, due to COVID-19, attendees are asked to observe six foot social distancing at the service, visitation and graveside service. Please wear your mask for safety precautions and in accordance with CDC guidelines.

Ricketson Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
