So many COVID-19 stories end in tragedy. Here is one that, thankfully, went the other way. The following was posted on Coffee Regional Medical Center’s Facebook page:

“We are so very thankful for a happy ending to a story of strength, perseverance, and dedication. Everyone at Coffee Regional Medical Center was excited to welcome home one of our very own, April Dean, after she has faced a long battle with COVID-19. A registered nurse at Coffee Regional Medical Center, April was diagnosed in July with COVID-19, was hospitalized and began what would be a very long battle. She went from frontline caretaker to the one being cared for in a few short days.

“April was treated by the best right here at CRMC and fought hard to overcome her illness. Due to the length of her hospitalization and lack of mobility, while intubated, post hospital rehabilitation was required to assure she could regain the strength she needed. April found strength and motivation from her family, friends, and caregivers and improved every day. We are thrilled that April has completed clinical rehabilitation and has released to complete her rehabilitation at home in an outpatient manner. Upon her arrival back to Douglas, family members drove April through the campus of Coffee Regional, where she was surprised with cheers and well-wishes from her coworkers.

“April shared this about her experience, ‘If it was not for prayer and God’s grace I would have never survived! He is my waymaker, miracle worker, promise keeper and light in the darkness!’”
