DPD to offer citizens’ police academy

The Douglas Police Department will be conducting a Citizens’ Police Academy course beginning Thursday, October 29, 2020, 6pm, at the Douglas Police Department. The course lasts approximately eight weeks and a light meal and refreshments will be provided. The course will cover numerous areas and is designed to introduce and inform citizens of the role of Law Enforcement in the community and familiarize them with some of the applications of law.

 

The class hours will be from 6:00pm to approximately 8:00pm every Thursday night beginning October 29 through December 17. Some of the topics covered will be: Police Dept. Structure, Crime Scene Processing, Family Violence, Juvenile law, Gangs, Evidence Procedures, Patrol Operations, Use of Force, Firearms Training, Internal Affairs, Complaint process, Disciplinary process, and participants will conduct a ride along with an Officer during the course.

 

Participants do not have to be a resident of Douglas to attend this course. It is open to all citizens over 18 years of age. Class maximum will be 20 participants. Registration deadline is October 27, 2020.
