The James M. Dye Foundation at South Georgia State College was honored recently with a $2,500 Community Service Grant from CSX Corporation. The grant supports the Foundation’s Gap Fund Program.

“The Dye Foundation was grateful to accept this grant on behalf of SGSC and its students,” said Foundation Executive Director Taylor Hereford. “The Gap Fund Program has helped many students stay on track for a college degree. CSX’s support strengthens the program’s mission, enabling the Foundation to change even more lives in the future.”

The purpose of the Gap Fund Program is to support SGSC students who have exhausted all financial aid options in a semester and still encounter a tuition and fee balance that must be paid. Students who qualify receive a grant for the remaining balance, allowing them to continue work toward the goal of graduating with a college degree.

“Education is a lifelong process, and CSX supports those who pursue their dreams,” said Craig Camuso, regional vice president for state government affairs for CSX Corporation. “CSX is honored to contribute to this program to help students achieve their goal of earning a college education.”

The James M. Dye Foundation is a 501(c)3 non-profit cooperative organization of South Georgia State College. Contributions to the Foundation are tax deductible as allowed by law.

According to its website, CSX Corporation “is one of the nation’s leading transportation suppliers.” The company manages Rice Yard, one of its railroad hubs, in Waycross. The company’s Community Service Grants are awarded to organizations who “make a strong, quantifiable impact on their greater communities.”
