Dorothy “Dot” O’Steen Jowers, age 88 of Douglas, GA went to her heavenly home Saturday, December 12, 2020. Mrs. Jowers was born January 30, 1932 in Douglas, GA to the late Henry and Eula Mae Johnson. She was a native of the Satilla community for many years.

 

Mrs. Jowers was proceeded in death by her first husband, Rev. Freeman O’Steen and her five brothers, Johnny (Blondine) Johnson, Braxton (Onita) Johnson, Russell Johnson, Paul Johnson, and C.A. Johnson.   

 

She is survived by her husband of over 15 years, Mr. Paul Jowers and her three children, Pat Guthrie, Jackie (John) Spivey, Stanley (Peggy) O’Steen and stepson, Dewey (Carrie) Jowers. She was also survived by her grandchildren, Jason O’Steen, Melinda Spivey, Chad (Tonia) Guthrie, Lovey Stone, Ashley (Rachel) Spivey, April (Clayton) Henderson, Warren Jowers and Nicholas Jowers. Dorothy was also blessed with her great grandchildren, Carter O’Steen, Keaton O’Steen, Connor Spivey, Brant Spivey, Jadyn Guthrie, Jarrod Gaff, Amber Gaff, Hallee Spivey, Harlee Spivey, Brody Spivey, Graham Henderson, Logan (Amber) Stone, Reanna (Mathew) Porter; and many other great great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and many other family members.

 

Dot was a retired para-pro at Satilla Elementary School.  She dedicated her life to the Lord. She was a faithful member of Tanner Missionary Baptist Church for over 62 years. She was a mother and grandmother like no other and her legacy will live on through them.  She loved her community, her family, her friends, Elvis, and most of all God.

 

Graveside services will be held Tuesday, December 15, 2020 at 11:00 am at Tanner Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. Buddy Jordan and Rev. Larry Stone officiating.

 

In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made in memory of Dorothy O’Steen Jowers to Tanner Baptist Church, P.O. Box 1835, Douglas, GA 31534.  Condolences may be left for the family at www.simsfuneralhome.org.

 

Sims Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

 

Due to COVID-19, Sims Funeral Home Inc. will require all guests and attendees to wear appropriate medical grade facemasks and maintain social distancing at all times while visiting our facility, and highly encouraged at our services outside of our facility.  Masks are not provided.
