Martha R. Meeks, age 95, of Douglas, Georgia passed away on Tuesday, December 29, 2020 at Coffee Regional Medical Center. Mrs. Meeks was born on September 23, 1925 in Coffee County, Georgia the daughter of the late Albert Newton Johnson and Jenny Irene Reid Johnson.

 

Mrs. Meeks retired from Coffee County School System as a teacher, volunteered at the HOPE Center and was member of Douglas First Baptist Church. She also was a member of the Pilot Club, Golden Girl at Shady Acres, Retired Teacher Association and a GAG member.

 

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Clifford Meeks, and a grandson, Mathew Gibbs.

 

Survivors include two daughters, Jenny L. Thompson (Carroll) of Douglas, GA and Carol M. Bratcher (Ollie) of Douglas, GA; step-son, Eddie Meeks of Thomaston, GA; seven grandchildren, Tracy Vercillo (Bernard), Derrick Gibbs (Tabitha), Jonathan Meeks, Sarah Spell (John), Gabe Bratcher, Charlie Bratcher (Jamie) and Candice Williamson (James). ten great grandchildren, Shelby Bratcher, Max Bratcher, Aria Bratcher, Oilvia Bratcher, Charlotte Bratcher, Chloe Bratcher, Audrey Williamson, KaDee Fussell, Matalyn Fussell and Jack Williamson brother, Herbert Johnson of Cedartown, GA.

 

Graveside services will be held on Thursday, January 14, 2021 at 11:00am at Central Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. Shep Johnson officiating. Oscar Streat will give a eulogy. Pallbearers will be her grandchildren.

 

Sims Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

 

Due to COVID-19, Sims Funeral Home Inc. will require all guests and attendees to wear appropriate medical grade face-masks and maintain social distancing at all times while visiting our facility, and highly encouraged at our services outside of our facility.  Masks are not provided.
