Brett Loring Williams, 57, passed away on February 22, 2021, at his residence.

 

Brett was born in Alma, Georgia on January 15, 1964 to Thomas R. “Smut” Williams and Judith Adcock Williams, who preceded him in death.  Brett was a proud Coffee High School Trojan athlete, playing both varsity football and varsity tennis.  He graduated from the University of Georgia in 1986, and in 1988, he joined the United States Army, serving during Desert Storm.  While in the Army, Brett served as a military police officer and eventually became a special agent with the Criminal Investigations Command.  During his time in CID, he served in Illinois, Wisconsin, and Korea. At the time of his passing, Brett worked at Wal-Mart Distribution.

 

Brett was a devoted Georgia Bulldogs fan.  Nothing pleased him more than cheering on the Dawgs in Athens or Gator hating in Jacksonville.  He especially enjoyed tailgating with his family at the Georgia-Florida game.  Brett loved attending family reunions every two to three years, when he could meet up with his many cousins, aunts, and uncles and tell stories of his youth.  He loved vacationing with his son in the summertime. 

 

Brett is survived by his son, Bryson Williams and girlfriend Katie Fuller of Valdosta; his sister, Karen Schaack (Greg) of Savannah; his nieces, Jessica Crisler and Madeline Crisler of Atlanta; Morgan Schaack of Augusta, and Lindsay Rothstein (Brian) of Jacksonville, Florida; and great niece Avery Rothstein.

 

The family will receive friends Saturday, March 6, 2021 from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at Sims Funeral Home.

 

A memorial service will be held Saturday, March 6, 2021 at 1:00 p.m. at Douglas First United Methodist Church with Rev. James Sapp officiating. 

 

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Academies of Coffee at Coffee High School, 159 Trojan Way, Douglas, Georgia 31533 or to the Office of Gift Accounting, Emory University, 1762 Clifton Road NE, Suite 1400, MS: 0970-001-8AA, Atlanta, GA 30322-4001.  Mark your gift for Division of Transplantation or the Mason House, which provides lodging for the families of transplant recipients.
