Watson sets CHS 800 meter record at Fitzgerald meet, now holds three track records

Coffee High senior Cameron Watson set a school record in the 800 meters at the Community Bank Invitational held last week in Fitzgerald. Watson’s time of 2:3.53 bested Kirby Merritt’s time of 2:7.5, which has stood since 2003.

 

The Lady Trojans scored 99 points to finish third in the team standings while the men’s team finished fifth with 53 points.

 

Gabby Mann was the leading point leader scoring 18.5 points. She had two second places in the long jump clearing 17 feet 6.5 inches and triple jump clearing 33 feet and 3 inches.  Gabby was the lead leg of the first place 4X100 relay team with Iyani Johnson, Janiya Brown, & Ja’Maria Harvey with a time of 53.54 seconds.

 

Breanna Griffin placed 5 in the 100 meter dash with a time of 13.05 seconds.

 

Ja’Marial Harvey had a big day also scoring a fourth place finish in the 200 meter dash with a time of 27.79 seconds. She placed second in the 400 meter dash with a time of 1 minute 2.61 seconds.

 

Janiya Brown placed second in the 100 meter dash with a time of 12.72 seconds. She also placed 8th in the 200 meter dash with a time of 30.37.

 

Iyani Johnson placed third in the 400 meter dash running a time of 1 minute 5.44 seconds. Kate Merritt placed fourth with time of 5 minutes and 16 seconds in the 1600 meter run. She also competed in the 3200 meter run with a time of 12 minutes and 42.86 seconds.

 

Brayden Bailey placed fifth in the 1600 meter run with a time of 5:16.00

 

Ainsley Myers took a seventh place finish in the 3200 meter run with a time of 15 minutes and 38.24 seconds.

 

Laniya Livingston placed third in the 100 meter hurdles with a time of18.43 seconds.  She also placed fifth in the 300 meter hurdles with a time of 59.68 seconds.

 

Tiara Fletcher set two personal records in the throws. She recorded a fourth place finish in the discus throw clearing 79 feet. Tiara placed 8th in the shot put with a throw of 25 feet and 2 inches.

 

Cameron Watson and Chris Stafford were the leading scorers for the Trojans. Cameron now is the current record holder in the 800 meter run, 1600 meter run, and the 3200 meter run.

 

Chris Stafford placed first in the triple jump clearing 42 feet. Chris also placed 3rd in the long jump with a jump of 19 feet and 7 inches.

 

Emarion Graham placed first with a throw of 129 feet and 9 inches in the discus.

 

The 4X800 meter relay team of Humberto Rivas, Carter Young, Olan Dickson, and Hunter Milholin set a new school record of 9 minutes and 19.58 seconds. The team finished fourth overall.
