James Sammie Peterson Sr., age 81, of Douglas, Georgia passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his loving family. Mr. Peterson was born on April 5, 1939 in Coffee County, Georgia the son of the late Richard T. and Alma Leggett Peterson.

 

James grew up in West Green and Douglas and worked as a house painter for 33 years. He also worked at Campbell’s Soup Co., and Dutch Quality House. He loved the outdoors, to be in nature’s surroundings. He loved animals (chickens, guineas, dogs, cats etc.), hunting, fishing and camping. He was a charter member of Faith Chapel, but in later years was not able to attend church because of his health. Mr. Peterson loved the Lord and knew where his blessing came from. Sammie loved to help people on the Sand Ridge, giving them rides to the store and other places.

 

He was a member of the Georgia National Guard.

 

Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Ruth G. Peterson of Douglas, GA; sons, Steven James Peterson (Jennifer) of Douglas, GA, Richard Allen Peterson (Frances) of Douglas, GA, and James Sammie Peterson Jr (Heather) of Douglas, GA; two grandchildren, Santana Peterson of Douglas, GA, and Tony Peterson (Ashley) of Waycross, GA; two nieces, and a nephew.

 

The family will receive friends Tuesday evening, March 9, 2021 from 6:00 pm. until 8:00 p.m. at Sims Funeral Home.

 

Memorialization is by cremation.

 

Sims Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

 

Due to COVID-19, Sims Funeral Home Inc. will require all guests and attendees to wear appropriate medical grade face-masks and maintain social distancing at all times while visiting our facility, and highly encouraged at our services outside of our facility.  Masks are not provided.
