Gov. Brian Kemp has announced that the COVID-19 vaccine eligibility has been expanded, beginning Monday, March 15, to adults 55 and older as well as those adults 18 and older with high-risk conditions.

Coffee Regional Medical Center has ample supply and is scheduling vaccination appointments. The call center (1-912-720-8306) will be answering calls from 8 am – 1 pm Monday thru Thursday. Vaccinations are being administered by Coffee Regional Medical Center at the Central Square Complex in Downtown Douglas at 216 South Madison Avenue. Everyone wishing to receive a vaccine must have an appointment. A photo ID is required. Please allow at least 30 minutes for your appointment.

There is a list of “high-risk conditions” including: asthma, cancer, ALS, cystic fibrosis, diabetes, heart conditions, HIV/AIDS, liver disease, Alzheimer’s, dementia, people who smoke and people who are obese. For a full list of high-risk conditions as defined by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) visit the link below: Certain Medical Conditions and Risk for Severe COVID-19 Illness or type the following into your internet browser www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/need-extra-precautions/people-with-medical-conditions

CRMC encourages all those eligible to receive a vaccination as soon as possible. COVID-19 vaccines have passed rigorous reviews and are highly effective. Scientists had a significant head start developing the COVID-19 vaccines as COVID-19 is very similar to other viruses, which already have vaccines. It is important to note that there is no COVID-19 virus in the vaccine. Once you are vaccinated, please follow the 3 W’s: Wear a mask, Wash your hands, and Watch your distance. Although you will have protection from the COVID-19 virus, it is unknown if you can still carry and pass the virus along to others.
