Rhoda Lott Hunter, age 95, of Douglas, Georgia passed away on Monday, March 29, 2021 at The Landings. Mrs. Hunter was born on December 4, 1925 in Coffee County, Georgia the daughter of the late Donnie and Rachel Merritt Lott.

 

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence John Hunter Sr, sister, Mary Alice Lott Hendry and, four brothers, Oswald “Bud” Lott, Alfred Lott, M.J. Lott and, Johnny Lott.

 

In her early years in education she began teaching in the Irwin County Schools, later to teach at Hebron School in Coffee County. In addition, she also was a paraprofessional and substitute teacher in the Coffee County School System until her retirement.

 

She loved to spend time with her family, especially going down to the pond with her grandchildren to fish.  Her favorite past time was shopping and she loved to find quality merchandise at mark down prices!

 

Her legacy will carry on strong with all surviving members of her family, 5 children, 15 grandchildren and 38 great grandchildren.

 

Survivors include three daughters, Emily Ragsdale (Cleve) of Douglas, GA, Janet Vickers (Craig) of Ambrose, GA and, Teresa Dorminey (Michael) of Douglas, GA; two sons, Ronald Hunter (Ann) of Moultrie, GA and, Dr. Clarence Hunter, Jr. (Jane) of Fitzgerald, GA; two sisters, Bonnie Thompson of Rome, GA and, Marie Lewis (Walter) of Villa Rica, GA; fifteen grandchildren, Amanda Scholten (Joel) of Broxton, GA, Suzanne Harper (Berry) of Douglas, GA, April Crawford (Lance) of Broxton, GA, Clevey Ragsdale (Heidi) of Orange City, Iowa, Michael C. Vickers (Courtney) of Ambrose, GA, Rachel Spivey (Ashley) of Ambrose, GA, Landon Dorminey (Shelby) of Parker, CO, Laura Williams (Dustin) of Douglas, GA, Jeffrey Hunter (Rachael) of Bonaire, GA, Patrick Hunter (Miriam) of Valdosta, GA, Julie Hunter of Moultrie, GA, Nicole Smith (Matt) of Chickamauga, GA, Daniel Hunter (Ashleigh) of Willacoochee, GA, Amanda Monroe (Brett) of Metter, GA and, William Hunter (Michelle) of Canton, GA; thirty-eight great grandchildren; many dedicated caregivers; several nieces, nephews and other relatives.  

 

A Rosary service will be held on Wednesday evening, March 31, 2021 at 6:00 p.m. at Sims Funeral Home. The family will receive friends afterwards until 9:00 p.m.

 

Graveside services will be held on Thursday, April 1, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. at Henderson Chapel, Ocilla, GA with Father Paul O’Connell officiating.  Clevey Ragsdale will give a eulogy. Pallbearers will be grandsons.

 

Sims Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

 

Due to COVID-19, Sims Funeral Home Inc. will require all guests and attendees to wear appropriate medical grade face-masks and maintain social distancing at all times while visiting our facility, and highly encouraged at our services outside of our facility.  Masks are not provided.
