Kevin Tatum, County Extension Coordinator

The VFW Post 5976 sponsored the Georgia State VFW BB Championship Match in Douglas on Saturday, April 3. BB teams from all across Georgia were invited to participate. Nine counties had teams and/or individuals compete in the match. Top five team awards were presented to each team’s members and a team trophy was presented to the top three teams. Awards were also presented to the top five individuals in each position (prone, standing, sitting, and kneeling) as well as the top five overall high scorers in the match.

Two Coffee County BB Teams competed in the match and the Coffee Red Team won first place in the match. Those team members included Meghan Batchelor, Caden Carter, Cara Griffis, Natalie Guthrie, Harleigh Hope, Taylor McClelland, and Mason Stewart. The Coffee Blue Team was made up of Raeleigh Batten, Eli Hope, Seth Hope, Ainslee Merritt, and Maggie Stewart. Coaches are W.B. Merritt, Ashley Guthrie, and Jim Carter.

In the individual competition, Natalie Guthrie won first place in the standing and sitting positions as well as second place high individual in the contest. Harleigh Hope placed third in the sitting position, Taylor McClelland placed third in the kneeling position, and Mason Stewart placed fourth in the prone position.

It was a great day for our team and we appreciate all the hard work of the volunteers who worked to put on the match as well as the work put in by our coaches in training the team.

STATE .22 RIFLE SILHOUETTE MATCH RESULTS

The match was run in two relays with one relay being shot in the morning hours and the second relay shot in the afternoon. Our team shot in relay two in the afternoon. Awards were presented to both relays. Caelan Merritt was recognized as the fourth highest scorer in relay two.
