The National Junior College Athletic Association’s Division I Men’s Basketball Committee has selected South Georgia State College’s Jalen King as a third team NJCAA All-American.

King, a 6’5″ sophomore from Columbus, Ga., averaged 15 points, 8.5 rebounds, and 2.6 assists per game for the Hawks this past season. He finished in the top ten in the GCAA in field goal percentage (52.8 percent). More impressive are King’s top five finishes in offensive rebounds (74), defensive rebounds (131), total rebounds (205), rebounds per game (8.5), total points (361), and points per game (15). He was a two-time GCAA Player of the Week this past season, receiving the honor during the weeks of Feb. 22 and March 15.

“This is an unbelievable and well-deserved honor for Jalen,” said head coach Cory Baldwin. “He was a consistent scorer and rebounder for us all season.”

King joins a list of former Waycross College/South Georgia State players to be named an NJCAA All-American: Reco Lewis (Waycross, honorable mention), Jovante’ Spivey (SGSC, first team), Tyrone Sam (SGSC, second team), and Zaquavian Smith (SGSC, second team).

The Hawks (23-4, 13-3) captured the GCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Tournament Championship April 10 in Waycross to earn an automatic bid to the NJCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Tournament. SGSC upset No. 12 Salt Lake Community College 93-89 (OT) in the first round and lost to No. 5 South Plains College 91-80 in the Sweet 16.
