On October 24, 2000, Landon Scott Freeman was born to Rod and Peggy Freeman in Douglas GA. He passed away on Sunday, May 9, 2021 at the age of 20 due to complications from an extended illness. He was his mom’s “little man” and his daddy’s “buddy”. He was simply called “Bubba” by his two sisters, Katie Laine Freeman and Emily Freeman. Landon was most proud to be called “Bubba” by his little nephew, Jonathan Freeman. He is also survived by his grandmother, Anne Freeman, several aunts, uncles and many cousins and abundance of friends and his best fur friend, Skye.  His grandparents, Dr. E. Donald and Frances Gillis and Thomas Freeman greeted him as he entered the gates of Heaven. He also leaves behind friends in this community and all over that have loved, supported and encouraged him during the long months of his illness. He was so grateful that “all these people” prayed for him for so long.

Landon was a quiet, kind hearted and gentle young man. Landon was an avid baseball player his whole life, playing on various rec league and travel ball teams during his youth. He was proud to have been part of the CHS baseball team during his high school years. He loved the outdoors, enjoyed hunting and fishing with his best buddies, training and playing with his best friend, his dog Skye.  At the time of his illness, he was attending classes through Middle Georgia State University School of Aviation.  Most recently, he worked with Carter Woodward Tree Services but worked with his cousin, Denton Thompson of Top Cuts Lawncare, since his early teen years. He was a member of Carver Baptist Church.

The family will receive friends on Thursday evening, May 13, 2021 from 6:00PM to 9:00PM at Carver Baptist Church.

Funeral services will be held on Friday May 14, 2021 at 11:00AM at Carver Baptist Church with Pastor Philip Corbean officiating, with eulogies given by his Uncle Dwayne Gillis and Coach/Friend Shyea Courson. His Uncle Don Gillis, playing his harmonica, will lead the congregation in “Amazing Grace” at the interment at Carver Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers will be his cousins Matt Baker, Hamp Gillis, Grant Gillis, Troy Simmons, Brady Courson, and Denton Thompson. Honorary pallbearers are his best friends Cole Browning, Jacob Vining, Daniel Hodges, Logan Vickers, Quinn Pierce, Anslee Jewell, Jayna McMillan, and the 2019 CHS Senior Baseball players.

If Landon could say anything right now, he would say to you to love your family and friends with your whole heart, to slow down and spend times with those you love and to know Jesus and have Him in your heart.  It was during his illness that he really came to understand what it meant to have God in your heart. He would always say Jesus is “my Lord, my Savior and my Holy Spirit”.  During his illness, he wanted to know that someone was being saved by and drawn to Jesus because of his ordeal. He would say if you do not know Jesus to please reach out to someone and let them guide you to Him because He is worth it all. He would leave you with these words… “Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or discouraged for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go” (Joshua 1:9) and “Please pray for my family now. I love, love love all of you!”

Due to COVID-19, Sims Funeral Home Inc. will require all guests and attendees to wear appropriate medical grade face-masks and maintain social distancing at all times while visiting our facility, and highly encouraged at our services outside of our facility.  Masks are not provided.
