During the last week of April 2021, the Douglas Police Department, City Marshal’s office, and Douglas Municipal Court were evaluated by a Georgia Crime Information Center (GCIC) during their FBI Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) audit.  All law enforcement offices satisfactorily passed the audit.

“We are pleased to be in compliance with the audit,” says Douglas Police Chief Edmisten.  “Compliance confirms our training is current and our records are up to date and within the standards set by the FBI.”

Areas that were audited included system administration, agency personnel security, personnel security/management control, personnel security with vendors, training, Georgia Criminal History File/Interstate Identification Index, system integrity, and validation. The purpose of the audit is to ensure that each agency is following CJIS and GCIC policy in order to keep using the database. The City of Douglas uses the system to run criminal histories, tags, licenses, and to enter wanted/missing people.

The rules of the GCIC Council mandate performance audits of criminal justice agencies that access the Georgia CJIS network to assess and enforce compliance with the Rules of the GCIC Council, O.C.G.A. § 35-3-30 through 35-3-40, other relevant Georgia code sections and pertinent federal statutes and regulations.  In addition, the FBI requires GCIC to triennially audit criminal justice agencies in order to ensure compliance with applicable statutes, regulations and policies.
