Pre-application period to support CRMC through rural tax credit opens Monday

You have the opportunity to decide HOW and WHERE your tax dollars are spent! Through the Georgia HEART rural tax credit program – the only tax credit program of its kind in the nation – you can redirect your state income taxes to our hospital. By using tax dollars that you must pay anyway, you will improve access to health outcomes and generate positive economic impacts for our community.

On May 17 at 9:00 am, Georgia HEART will begin accepting 2021 pre-applications for unlimited contribution amounts. HEART will submit these applications to the Georgia Department of Revenue beginning at 12:00 am on July 1st, in the order in which they are received. You may make your payment at any time during the remainder of calendar year 2021.

Not only will you receive a 100% Georgia income tax credit in exchange for your contribution, but if you own a pass-through business, you may receive a federal tax benefit as well!

Final IRS regulations provide for a federal deduction opportunity for pass-through entities. Businesses can deduct payments to Georgia HEART hospitals – as ordinary and necessary business expenses – if they are made with the reasonable expectation of financial return for the business. The IRS regulations are generous, indicating that the deduction may be available for payments made “for use in projects that improve conditions in the state.”

Coffee Regional Medical Center (CRMC) is ranked 6th out of the 55 eligible rural hospitals for 2021 in terms of most financial need according to the Georgia Department of Community Health. At CRMC, funds will be used to help purchase new equipment, recruit and retain physicians in high-demand and specialty areas, expand to offer new services and much, much more.

Last year, Georgia taxpayers contributed more than $54 million to our state’s rural hospitals. For 2021, it is very likely that all $60 million in available tax credits will be consumed, as this tax planning opportunity is gaining in popularity and momentum.

Please mark your calendar for May 17 at 9:00 am, and apply for your rural hospital tax credit to aid CRMC on the Georgia HEART website at www.georgiaheart.org.

For further details, please contact Ms. Walda Kight, CRMC Foundation Director, by email at Walda.Kight@coffeeregional.org or by phone at 912-383-6910. Take advantage of this special opportunity and keep your tax dollars at home to help your loved ones and our community!
