Trojans set two new school records at Sectionals, six qualify for state

Six Trojans qualified for the state track meet and set two new school records during Sectionals on May 8 at Union Grove High School.

 

Ja’Maria Harvey will compete in the 400 meter dash running a time of 58.42. This is a new school record, just edging out Sammieya Smith’s record of 58.81 in 2016 at the Sectionals meet on April 30, 2016. Also setting new school records in the 4X800 meter were relay Carter Young, Olan Dickson, Garrett Mancil and Hunter Milhollin with 9 minutes and 5.60 seconds.

 

Earnest Edwards had a great day improving his personal performance with a throw of 139 feet and 7 inches. Chris Stafford punched his ticket state by clearing 42 feet 5.5 inches. Gabby Mann took advantage of the opportunity to secure two spots in the long jump clearing 16 feet and 10 inches and improved her triple jump clearing 35 feet and 6 inches. Kate Merritt made the qualifying times in the 3200 meter run with a time of 11 minutes and 57.42 seconds. Cameron Watson has qualified for his third opportunity at the state meet. He will compete in the 1600 meter run of 4 minutes and 30.84. Cameron also will run the 3200 meter run with a time of 9 minutes and 47.55 seconds.

 

Jai Reed set a new personal record clearing 40 feet and 0.5 inches in the triple jump. Freshman Tyriq Edwards cleared 20 feet and 8 inches in the long jump. The all freshman team of Breana Griffin, Iyani Johnson Janiya Brown and Ja’Maria Harvey ran a season best in the 4X100 meter relay (51.42 seconds) and 4X400 meter relay (4 minutes and 45.15 seconds). The relay team of Chris Stafford, Dedrick Flagg, Travis Adams and Deuce Eddington improved to a season record of 3:45.97.

 

The state meet took place last week. Results will be posted when received.
