Mrs. Billie Teague Batten, age 88 of Pearson, Ga., passed away, Monday, June 21, 2021, at her home in Pearson, Ga. following a short illness.  Born on May 26, 1933, in Idabel, Oklahoma, to Mr. and Mrs. William and Lura Louis Ridge Teague, Billie made her home in Pearson with her husband and children.  She was a retired rural route carrier for USPS and was an active member of Wesley Chapel Holiness Baptist Church, where she played the piano for many years and participated in all church activities.  Mrs. Billie also enjoyed looking for Indian artifacts, showing off her beautiful flower garden and being with friends and family.  She was preceded in death by her parents, along with her husband; Nerle Batten, daughter; Lura Batten Relihan, great-grandson; Hunter Hersey and 2 brothers; Clinton and Van Teague.

 

Survivors include:

 

Sons:  Norman Batten of Douglas, Ga.

David Batten and wife, Eugenia of Bowdon, Ga.

Russell Batten and wife, Margaret of Perry, Fl.

 

Daughters:  Sandye Hersey and husband, Kenneth of Douglas, Ga,

Nancy Measels and husband, Mark of Douglasville, Ga.

 

19 Grandchildren, 30 Great-Grandchildren, 1 Great-Great Grandchild and several Nieces, Nephews and other relatives also survive.

 

Funeral services for Mrs. Batten were held Wednesday, June 23, 2021, at 11:00 A.M. at Wesley Chapel Holiness Baptist Church in Pearson Ga. with Bro. H.P. Murray, Bro. Charles Williams and Bro. Dody Hersey officiating. Special musical selections included, “I Owe it All to You, Lord” rendered by soloist, Betty Joiner accompanied by pianist, Wendy Spikes, “What a Day That Will Be” rendered acapella by soloist, Mark Measels, “Take My Hand, Precious Lord” and “When I’ve Traveled My Last Mile” both rendered by The Barnes’ Sisters with Wendy Spikes at the piano.  Soft music for the Prelude and Postlude was provided by pianist, Wendy Spikes.  The interment followed in Royals Cemetery.

 

Serving as active pallbearers were: Jonathan Batten, Kalem Batten, Lee Pittman, James Gore, Jr., Tyler Newborn and Grant Key.

 

Relihan Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
