George Vernon Kirkland III, age 60, of Douglas, Georgia passed away on Tuesday, July 6, 2021 at St. Vincent’s Hospital, Jacksonville, Florida. Mr. Kirkland was born on August 20, 1960 in Coco Solo, Panama the son of the late George Vernon Kirkland Jr., Ola Winters Harless and Allen E. Harless. Late grandparents of West Green, GA include William Boyd Winters Sr., and Ruby Davis Winters. Mercedes M. Kirkland and George V. Kirkland Sr. of Panama Canal Zone. Late aunts and uncles Hazel Alice Jefferson, Jennette McReynolds, Sylvia Smith, and William Boyd Winters Jr.

 

Mr. Kirkland was the owner of a construction company.

 

Survivors include his wife, Melanie O. Kirkland of Douglas, GA; daughter, Megan K. Nettles of Douglas, GA; son, George V. Kirkland IV of Douglas, GA;  parents, Allen E and Ola Harless  of Douglas, GA; step-children, Christopher McCook of Gloster Point, VA, Jessica Montgomery (Dustin) of Douglas, GA; Andrea McCook of Crestview, FL and, Heather McCook of Portland, Oregon; brother, Chris Kirkland (Marsha) of Douglas, GA; 3 sisters, Nora Meeks (Tom) of Douglas, GA, Cynthia Merritt (Andy) of Douglas, GA and Elizabeth Pickerall (Allen) of Petersburg, Ill; and grandchildren Cooper, Jude, and Bodhi, Bentley, Areis, Ari, and Avalyn, Trinity, Gabriel, Alaynah, and Noah, Melody, Bella, Jocelyn, Rylee, and Iris. As well as several nieces and nephews. Surviving aunts and uncles include Okla and Paul Gagliardi, Nora Kirkland Bess and Melvin Bess, Geri Winters, Jeff Jefferson, Ralph McReynolds, Warren and Terri Winters.

 

Memorial services will be held at a later date. Memorialization is by cremation.

 

Sims Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
