Joseph “Joe” Lawton Ellis, age 85, passed away suddenly on the morning of June 28, 2021 in his home from natural causes.  Joe was a long-time resident of Coffee County, but more recently resided in Lula, Georgia.

Joe enjoyed woodworking and could build anything, including his own home.  He was known throughout South Georgia for his concrete work.  Joe loved to travel in his later life and was over halfway to his goal of seeing the continental United States.  Joe was an avid bull-riding and rodeo fan and was rarely seen without his cowboy hat.

Five years ago, Joe was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Ellis.  Joe and Betty truly loved their children and enjoyed spending time with all of them.  Joe is survived by his two daughters- Cindy Woods and Cathy Waddell (Robert “Jeff”); four granddaughters- Shana Vickers, Brandi Elliott, Bianca Sarvis, and Meagan O’Toole; and eight great grandchildren- Summer and Kylie Whitesides, Brody and Logan Elliott, Sebastian and Willow Sarvis, and Taryn and Teegan O’Toole.  He is also survived by his sister- Grace Robinson.

The family will receive visitors on Thursday, July 1 at Sims Funeral Home in Douglas, Georgia from 6:00-8:00 pm. Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 2, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. in the Chapel of Sims Funeral Home, Douglas, Georgia. Interment will follow at Bethany Church Cemetery, Ambrose, GA.

Sims Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
