The Douglas Police Department is teaming together with law enforcement agencies, Coffee County Churches, and the Magnolia House to participate in National Faith and Blue Weekend.  National Faith & Blue Weekend (Faith & Blue), is a collaborative initiative that builds bridges and breaks down biases through activities and outreach amongst law enforcement professionals and the communities they serve.

On Saturday, October 9, 2021, Faith and Blue Weekend will kick off with a luncheon for law enforcement agencies coordinated by West Ward Church and hosted by all Churches in the community.  At approximately 1pm, the public is invited to come out and cheer your favorite law enforcement officer at the “Walk a Mile in Her Shoes” event. The “Walk a Mile In Her Shoes” event is a collaboration with law enforcement agencies and the Magnolia House to raise awareness for domestic violence against women.  Officers and Pastors are invited to participate and walk in high heels beginning at Central Square Gym, go east on Bryan St. to Columbia Ave., (on the sidewalks) in front of Police Department, then north on Columbia to W. Ashley St. and back to the Central Square Complex for an awards ceremony.

Ending the Faith & Blue weekend on Sunday, October 10, churches in Coffee County are asked to recognize law enforcement officers and to collect donations for the Magnolia House’s Purple Bag Challenge.  The Police Department will coordinate with churches to pick up all donations the following week and arrange delivery to the Magnolia House.

Faith and Blue Weekend is an initiative of MovementForward, Inc. and One Congregation One Precinct (OneCOP). The Magnolia House is a non-profit agency that provides services to victims of domestic violence who do not know where to turn, or have no place to go for assistance. For more information about Faith and Blue Weekend in Coffee County, please contact Douglas Police Chief Shane Edmisten at (912) 384-2222.
