Jerris Faye Mattox, 74, of Douglas, passed away on Sunday, September 19, 2021, after a courageous battle with breast cancer. Born on March 22, 1947, Mrs. Mattox was a life-long resident of Coffee County. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Mattox, her parents, Rhozier and Iris Mills, and an infant brother, Jim Mills.

Mrs. Mattox had many interests including gardening, cooking, reading and sewing. She devoted much of her time to her family, often placing others before herself. She loved her animals dearly, spending many afternoons on nature walks with her dogs. She also enjoyed photography, rarely missing an opportunity to capture the moment.

She spent over 19 years employed with Douglas Peanut & Grain Co., serving the last six as General Manager. While employed full-time, she graduated from South Georgia College in 1991, receiving her Associate of Applied Science in Business Management. She sat on the Board of Directors of the National Peanut Buying Points Association for over 5 years, which allowed her to serve in the community and travel to many places across the country. She enjoyed telling stories of the many places she visited. Following Douglas Peanut, Ms. Mattox worked as the Office Manager of Bailey Monument Company in Douglas for over 10 years and finally, Ward Monument Company in Douglas until her retirement in 2021.

Survivors include her son, Vince Edwin Cothren of Douglas, Georgia; one granddaughter, Lindsay Minis of Claxton, Georgia; one grandson, Aaron Cothren and wife Allie of Anaconda, Montana; five great-grandchildren, Hayden Morris, Easton Minis and Allie Minis of Claxton, Georgia, Aaron Cothren and Avery Cothren of Anaconda, Montana.

The family will receive friends at 10:00AM on Friday, September 24, 2021, at Sims Funeral Home. A procession will immediately follow to an 11:00AM graveside service at Roberts Cemetery in Nicholls, Georgia with Rev. Bobby Fussell officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Coffee County Humane Society. Arrangements have been entrusted to Sims Funeral Home.
