The Coffee Lady Trojans advanced to the Sweet 16 for the fourth time in the last six seasons with a doubleheader sweep over Mundy’s Mill 12-0 and 17-2 last week.
Freshman Erin Robinson in her first playoff start no-hit the Tigers striking out 10 along the way. Senior Emmy Elisis had a couple hits including a long homer to set the tone for Coffee. Hannah Capps, Emily Robinson, Kaci Thacker, and Erin Robinson all added a hit in the first game win.
“Erin really pitched well by attacking the strike zone and only walked one hitter,” stated head coach Stan Hughes.
In game 2 the Lady Trojans scored 17 runs as senior Emily Robinson paced the attack with a pair of hits including an opposite field bomb early. Jenna Graham, Lacey Stone, Ryli Nipper, Kaci Thacker, Shyanne Jump, Erin Robinson, and Abby Dockery all chipped in with a hit apiece. Lacey Stone allowed 1 hit in the win and kept the Tigers off-balance the entire game.
“We loved the way the girls stayed focused in game 2 and pounded the ball, it’s easy to get sidetracked after a big win. We have some people who are banged up a little but these girls are tough and will find a way that’s one of their strengths,” said Coach Hughes.
The Lady Trojans will take on # 1-ranked Chamblee High School in Round 2, a team with 2 really good arms and a 28-2 record. The double header is on Tuesday at 2 and 4 with an if game Wednesday at 4 in Chamblee.
