Wonell Courson Busby, 86, died peacefully at home in Savannah, GA on Saturday, October 16, 2021, surrounded by her loving family.

The Douglas, GA native was born on September 5, 1934 to the Earlie M. and Stella Worth Courson.

Wonell dearly loved the life of a military wife, and enjoyed traveling the world with her beloved husband, the late Colonel Leman O. Busby, U.S. Army.  She was a homemaker and loved taking care of her family. Wonell loved spending time with her children and grandchildren and would volunteer at all of their functions. In addition to supporting her family, Wonell was a volunteer with the American Red Cross while she lived abroad. The family moved to Savannah in 1969.

After the death of her husband, Wonell joined the staff of the St. Joseph’s Hospital Auxiliary (The Pink Ladies) and worked there until she retired.

Wonell leaves behind a daughter, Viki Ashman of Savannah; son, Bruce Leman Busby of Roanke, AL; grandchildren, Chris Haupt, Christine Busby, Chad Busby, Gabby Busby, and Mitchell; two great-granddaughters, and her brother-in-law, Legrand Busby.

Visitation for Ms. Busby will be held Wednesday, October 20, 2021 from 12:00 noon to 1:00 p.m. at Sims Funeral Home, 201 North Peterson Avenue, Douglas, GA.

The funeral service will be at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 20, 2021 in the chapel of Sims Funeral Home, with Pastor Leroy Spivey officiating.

Burial will be in Lone Hill Cemetery in Douglas, GA.

Remembrances may be made to a memory care/Alzheimer’s charity, or to the St. Joseph’s Hospital Auxiliary in Savannah.
