Mrs. June Elinor Gillis Ricketson Tanner, age 90 of Douglas, GA passed away Wednesday afternoon, October 20, 2021 at her residence following an extended illness. Mrs. Tanner was born June 17, 1931 to the late James Oliver Gillis and the late Myrtle Harrell Gillis. She was preceded in death by her first husband, John Allen Ricketson, Sr. and 2 Sons: John Allen Ricketson, Jr. and James Ben Ricketson, 1 Sister: Celia Morrison; 1 Grandchild: Dave Temple and 1 Great Grandchild: Estella Ann Shook.

Mrs. Tanner, a native of Coffee County, had taught in the elementary school program for the Coffee County Board of Education for 31 years before her retirement. She had received her Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education. Mrs. Tanner was one of the founders of the Delta Kappa Gamma Sorority. She had attended both Stokesville Baptist Church and Carver Baptist Church.

Her Husband: Jess F. Tanner of Douglas, GA

1 Daughter: Rebecca “Becky” Temple of Douglas, GA

1 Step-Son: Wade Tanner of Douglas, GA

1 Step-Daughter: Laurie Tanner of Douglas, GA

4 Grandchildren: Leslie Shook and husband Drew of Axson, GA
Laura Curtis and husband Isaiah of Douglas, GA
Madelyn Tanner and Jessie Tanner of Axson, Ga

3 Great Grandchildren: Eli Curtis and Eliza Curtis of Douglas, GA
Aria June Shook of Axson, GA

A number of Nieces, Nephews, Cousins and Many Friends.

The Graveside Service will be Saturday morning, October 23, 2021 at 11:00 AM at Carver Cemetery with Rev. Leroy Spivey and Judge Dewayne Gillis officiating. The interment will follow in the family lot at Carver Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at Carver Cemetery on Saturday morning, October 23, 2021 from 10:00 AM until the time of the service at 11:00 AM.

Active Pallbearers for the service will be: Dewayne Gillis, Don Gillis, Wade Tanner, Drew Shook, Isiah Curtis and Ronnie Noble.

Due to COVID-19, the family would like to ask that all attendees follow the rules of social distancing and wear your mask for safety precautions at the service.

Ricketson Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
