The Southern Georgia Regional Commission hosted the annual Area Officials Appreciation Dinner at the event venue, The Farm, in Adel, Georgia on Tuesday, October 26, 2021.  City of Douglas officials were in attendance and were recognized by the Georgia Department of Community Affairs (DCA) for receiving Community Block Development Grant (CDBG) Funds, Community HOME Investment Program (CHIP) grant funding, and establishing a Revitalization Area Strategy (RAS) within the Urban Redevelopment Area.

“We are very happy with our partnerships with the Southern Georgia Regional Commission and the Georgia Department of Community Affairs,” says Mayor Tony Paulk. “Receiving grants through their guidance and assistance helps our community.”

In September 2021, the City of Douglas was awarded CDBG funds in the amount of $636,875 to address substandard housing conditions in the “Mill Quarters” area of Douglas. DCA awarded Douglas $400,000 in April 2021 to rehabilitate owner-occupied housing in Douglas. The RAS designation provides incentives to communities who implement comprehensive redevelopment activities for targeted areas in the city.
