SGSC cruises to second straight win

The South Georgia State College Hawks took advantage of strong shooting and their trademark defensive pressure Saturday afternoon to cruise to a 131-34 victory over Reinhardt University Reserve (RUR).

         

Six SGSC players scored in double figures, led by Carlos Hart’s 17 points, four rebounds, three assists, one steal, and one blocked shot. AJ Spencer had 16 points, five rebounds, four assists, and three steals. Turahn Thompson finished with 13 points, four rebounds, four assists, five steals, and one blocked shot. Justin Edmonson (11 points), Nebie Tasfa (10 points), and Zae Wiggins (10 points) rounded out the top scorers.

         

The Hawks (2-0) shot 61.6 percent from the field and 44.4 percent from the three-point line. Meanwhile, SGSC held RUR to 26.9 percent shooting, 12 percent from the three-point line, and forced a total of 44 turnovers. The Hawks outrebounded RUR 54-20, holding RUR to four offensive rebounds.

         

SGSC began a two-game road trip Tuesday, Nov. 9 against Denmark Tech, followed by a Nov. 11 contest at Edward Waters College (JV). The Hawks open their Waycross Campus schedule Nov. 19-20 in the Applebee’s Okefenokee Classic. SGSC will face Denmark Tech Friday, Nov. 19 at 8 p.m., and Caldwell Tech Saturday, Nov. 20 at 4 p.m.

 

General admission to all regular season home games is five dollars with children five and under admitted free.
