Kevin Tatum, County Extension Coordinator

Junior/Senior 4-H members need to be working on completing their DPA presentations as well as their portfolios. Portfolio FINAL COPIES are due in the county 4‑H office by Friday, December 10. Your presentation needs to be ready now so you will have time to practice it before the competition.  We want each of you to have a competitive portfolio and demonstration so you have a good chance of standing on the stage receiving a first-place award.

Call or come by the 4‑H office today to sign up for a project (first come, first choice).  4‑H staff members will be happy to help you get started and answer any questions you have as you work on your presentation.

4-H ADOPT-A-HIGHWAY WORKDAY

4-H members are reminded of the next 4-H Adopt-A-Highway on Monday, December 6, at 4 PM. 4-H’ers should meet at the 4-H office for this activity. We are usually finished by 5 pm, so parents who don’t stay and help should be back at 5 PM to pick up their children.

FALL FORUM

The Georgia 4-H Board of Directors are planning a fun-filled weekend for Fall Forum. The weekend (December 11-12) includes a mix of workshops and educational sessions along with opportunities for community service and exhibits. Registration for Fall Forum is open to any current 9th-12th grade 4-H members in the 2021-2022 school term. This event provides many opportunities for project work, competition, networking, and training for youth and adults.

Regular registration is $100 and is due by Friday, November 19. The registration fee covers Saturday lunch, dinner, and lodging, as well as Sunday breakfast. Pizzas can be ordered Saturday morning or at lunch and are $12 each.

You are also asked to contribute canned foods to the “4‑H Cans Hunger” service project. Be sure to turn in your canned foods to the 4-H office before December 1.

Please feel free to contact the 4-H office if you have additional questions about Fall Forum.

If you would like to learn how you can become more involved with the Coffee County 4-H program, please contact the Coffee County Extension office at (912) 384-1402 or visit our website at http://coffee4h.org.

RETIREMENT

November 30 is my last official day as the Coffee County Extension Agent for 4-H. I have enjoyed my career as 4-H agent but have decided that it’s time for the old to step aside and let the new take over.

There will be so many things I will miss about my job such as the contact with the 4-H students, my co-workers, the clients who come in to the office, the other employees in the Ag. Center, the school personnel that work with us to have 4-H in the schools, my co-workers in other counties, and so many others. I am very appreciative of those who I have worked with over the years that taught me so much. Lisa Craigue, Liz Batten, Alyse Hall, Chalanda Woods, Misty Tanner, Lillie Smith, Lynn McMillan Adams, Beth Hersey, Terri Taylor, Charnita Williams, Rick Reed, Randy Roberts, Eddie McGriff, Mark von Waldner, Jeremy Taylor, John McLemore, Amanda Murphy, Malory Howard, Debbie Hendley, Floyd Thompkins, Karen Brunegraff, and Renee Roberson, you all made an impact on my life and I want to thank you for your assistance with 4-H during my tenure as 4-H agent.

To my replacement, do your best, learn from your mistakes, and trust your volunteers and coworkers to help you have one of the best county 4-H programs in the state of Georgia. Just as 4-H members, you will be “Learning by Doing” as you strive “To Make The Best Better” in Coffee County 4-H. May God bless you in all your endeavors.
