On Thursday, Nov. 18, the Douglas Mayor’s Youth Council recognized November as Adoption Awareness Month. The Council learned about adoption awareness from local teen advocate, Kaitlyn Tanner. Guest speaker Megan Rabun, Director of Membership, Marketing & Programs for Douglas-Coffee Co. Chamber of Commerce and EDA, spoke about upcoming Chamber events and holiday events.
The Youth Council member chosen to spotlight for November was Joana Mazariegos. Joana is the daughter of Vigler and Edelmira Mazariegos. She attends Coffee High School and is a member of Chorus (Advanced Choir) and FBLA. This is her first year serving on the Mayor’s Youth Council. She is a member of Senda De Vida Church and is a part of the church Worship and Dance Team.
The outstanding community youth chosen by the Youth Council to be highlighted was Aaliyah Coronado. Aaliyah is the daughter of Regina and Fernanado Coronado, Sr. She attends Coffee High School where she is active in Chorus, CHS Show Choir, Band and helping youth become more confident in their singing capabilities. She also plays softball and is a member of the National Honor Society. Aaliyah attends First United Methodist Church and sings in the church choir.
