Mr. Mardick Henry “M.H.” Pope of Douglas, Georgia passed away on Friday, December 17, 2021 at his home surrounded by family and friends following a great long life of 99 years. Mr. Pope is preceded in death by his Parents, Wright Mardick and Mellie English Pope; Wife, Mary Lee Harper Pope; Daughter, Teresa Pope; Son, Tony Pope; Grandson, Michael Pope; Great Grandson, Dylan Bowman; and all of his older ten siblings, Willie, Wright, Jewell, Albert, Eudora, L.G., Kate, D.W., Sam, and Walker.

Mr. Pope was born the youngest of eleven siblings, December 11, 1922 in Douglas, Georgia. He was a WWII veteran and served in Germany. After his service in the United States Army, he returned home to his wife, Mary Lee Harper. They farmed “Pope Hill” for many years while raising their five children along with neighboring immediate family. Mr. Pope was considered family among the Carver Baptist Church Community. He was a member of Carver Baptist Church and served as a deacon for many years.

In his early years, M.H. enjoyed anything relating to fishing and spending time with family and friends. In his later years he enjoyed watching Andy Griffith, Gaither Vocal Band and old westerns. His greatest joy came from anything relating to “Pope Hill” — talking about family memories, being visited by family and friends, and mostly watching all the traffic and activity going on on “Pope Lane” from his living room widow until his last breath.
