With the holiday season here and thoughts of giving on everyone’s minds, Wiregrass Georgia Technical College honored one of the Foundation’s supporters, Buck and Libby Anderson, by naming the auditorium in Dorminy-Mixon Hall after them.  Mr. Anderson has been generously giving to the college and supporting students for 36 years.  He was a dynamic part of the College’s Foundation since its inception in 1985 and served as the first Foundation president.  This Foundation was the first formed for technical colleges in the state of Georgia.

“When we need inspiration and motivation, Mr. Anderson is the man we call upon,” shared Mona Paulk, Ben Hill-Irwin Campus Administrator.  Much of the success of the College’s Foundation can be attributed to him. His business acumen and no-nonsense, straight-to-the-point approach to any challenge is recognized and greatly appreciated.  “He keeps a close eye on our portfolio, providing invaluable recommendations and financial updates, and our donors know immediately the needs and goals of the Foundation,” shared Paulk.  Before a small gathering, President DeAnnia Clements shared that Mr. Anderson is generous with his resources and wisdom and has even assisted the college with beautification projects by donating plants, trees, and maintenance instructions.

Mr. Anderson has also served his community well in helping attract businesses and industries for the area and was the key individual behind the formation of a local bank, the Community Bank of Fitzgerald, serving as the first chairman of the bank board.  “Mr. Anderson truly makes a difference on any project he touches,” shared DeAnnia Clements, Wiregrass President.  “He may be all business, but he backs that business with a generous heart that is evident by his support and unwavering commitment.” It was then announced that the auditorium in Dorminy-Mixon Hall has been named “The Mr. and Mrs. S.S. “Buck” Anderson, Jr. Auditorium.”

The bronze plaque was specially created in the Precision Machining Tool Technology Program, which is coordinated by Darron Lanier.  The plaque will be placed at the door of the Mr. and Mrs. S.S. “Buck” Anderson, Jr. Auditorium in Dorminy-Mixon Hall on the Ben Hill-Irwin campus.
